I will be either removing from the site or moving this About page to place on the web site.
Eastview Connect was originally created to assist with my interests in the Creation/Evolution debate and to help disseminate information concerning the class and material for the class that I presented at Eastview Christian Church, back in Feb of 2019.
** Disclaimer, Before I continue, let me say that, though I hold the opinions and guidance of those from Eastview Christian Church in high regard, Eastview Connect and Eastview Christian Church are not affiliated with each other. I, Roger L Waldrip, fully own Eastview Connect and am solely responsible for the material contained therein. Despite my relationship with Eastview Christian Church, I am under no obligation to conform to any standards, conduct or … And Eastview Christian Church is not responsible for any material that I present, and they may disagree with any doctrine or opinion that Eastview Connect holds to. Disclaimer done **
Its primary use completed, I later revamped it as a an extension of the Eastview Christian Church web site. Though I wasn’t asked to, I did so to demonstrate what could be done as a pie on the sky site or if just pieces may want to be used on their web site.
I designed it to be a one stop shop for the Eastview Christian Church’s members as well as potential visitors. No longer would one have to go to Facebook for this info, to another resource for the church directory, etc.
I also had added features that would aid classes and ministry teams and assist with communications. Later, I would have liked to have added in Moodle (or similar), a software that many educational institutions to make classroom material, grading and the like. The idea was to present information to those that couldn’t attend, have additional material to those that did, and to monitor progress so that ‘instructors’ could see where the class was at and determine what needed to change, to garner further understanding of a topic, or where to go when moving on. Of course, those could be applied to the whole congregation and an aid to sermons.
Overall, I had hoped that the website would better the churches communication to its members and help with the training of lay people. Yes, there would be training issues to fully utilize what was there, but new stuff usually does require training. Yes, not all instructors would want to use the educational pieces, because it would require more work on their part. Yes, a lot of the members wouldn’t take advantage of it. But who do you blame? If the information isn’t presented, then it’s the leadership’s, teacher’s or ministry team’s fault. But if you put the information out there and people don’t use it, then the fault rest squarely on the members.
It went nowhere. I’m not even sure anyone even looked at it. I’m not upset if they didn’t as they didn’t ask for it. I might be disappointed that no one probably even looked at it. As at the very least, the communications portion of it would be very beneficial. And as I have always said, I don’t care if my idea isn’t used, do something; do something different if it isn’t working.
After seeing that there was no interest in the site, I offered the site name to Eastview Christian Church, in case they wanted to do something with it in the future. Like my asking them if they wanted to use the site, asking them if they wanted the name did not generate a response either. So the assumption I take is that there neither is nor was any interest in either.
Well, the corona virus thing struck. And though I haven’t followed it much, I have heard that it is evolving. Evolving always tickles my ear. Ah. Well, I got time and I decided to fire up the Eastview Connect web site and jump back on the Creation/Evolution bandwagon. But I’m going to expand my scope some. I’ll even dabble in theism more than I have in the past.
I’ll include topics about Biblical Archaeology, which come about as I have heard people talking about errors and inaccuracies in geography and history. Some discussions about the “Church”, then and now will work its way in, and maybe even a little end times, though I’m not big on it (I believe it’s going to happen, but I don’t believe that many, if any, have it right).
I hope you can enjoy this site and my brand of humor and interest harnessing. I’m not versed in good grammatical skills or spelling. Actually, I take pride in my creative misspellings and whimsical grammatical sentencing. I do generally do a spell check, contrary to what many believe, but after a round of furious typing and mental exhaustion, my eye strain and patience with my computers spell checking abilities usually just inclines me to hit enter to get through it. And I figure it this way, if you can tell me the word I spelled wrong, then it was close enough that my communication to be effective. If you find it too distracting, let me know and I’ll try to watch for errors more closely; or better yet, volunteer to proof read my material.
Eastview Connect is presented through WordPress. WordPress is a great blogging platform but as a standalone, leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, it isn’t very mobile friendly out of the box. Menus and such aren’t designed for phones so plugins and the like are needed to fill the gaps. But as an out of the box blogging platform goes, WordPress is very nice.
I myself hate doing work for very long on a phone. Especially reading and web surfing. So I myself don’t make things very ‘phone friendly’. This may agitate some of you that use your phone extensively or exclusively. It appears that I don’t have many concerns for you. Well, you’re partially correct. I’m not visually acute to things like graphic design. I’m more functional. Much of the site is functional on a phone but not very desirable and I don’t apologize for that.
I can either spend my time designing a pretty website or creating material that has substance. Another option would be to purchase add-ons (I’m probably not going to spend my own money on add-ons unless of course I see that there is enough people to justify it).If you would like to help to make the site more readable on a phone, submit suggestions (make it better isn’t a suggestion and is in fact useless). Maybe do some site checking when I make changes. Heck, I’ll give you access to the site to make changes, provided I feel you are competent enough to do so.
I designed the web site, made the color combinations and choose the fonts and sizes based on what looked good to me. I’ll gladly make changes (specific changes) or let someone make those changes if it makes the site better for others. I’m not married to its look or feel. There’s room for more here.
