God the Father
Who is God the Father
God the Father, sometimes referred to as the Godhead, is one person of the Trinity. When many people think of God, in this case it would be God the Father, as a hard line, easily angered and judgmental God.
Nothing could be further from the truth. God the Father is a great example to earthly fathers. Though not a quality unique to God the Father, Love is His greatest attribute (John 16:27, 1 John 4:8).God the Father clearly makes it evident that He doesn’t want to kill people (Ezekiel 33:11). God the Father rebuked Jonah when he wasn’t wanting to show compassion on Nineveh (Jonah 4:10–11). God is slow to His punishments (2 Peter 3:9) but will take appropriate action (Genesis 18:25).
Don’t like the punishments He hands out? Well, you’ll have to take that up with Him, but He is fair (Psalm 25:8, 1 Peter 1:17) and who are we to question the reasoning of God (Job 36:22, Romans 11:33)?
He sent Jesus, because He loves us, to pay the price for sin (John 3:16) but it is God who forgives (Psalm 65:3, Psalm 86:5). ** A cautionary note ** In order to gain God’s forgiveness, we must forgive others (Matthew 6:15). That’s an attribute that He placed upon man when man was created in His own image.
Some of His attributes are:
-
He is the sustainer of everything, materially and spiritually (Colossians 1:17)
-
He up holds everything and governs everything (1 Chronicles 29:11, Luke 23:46, Daniel 2:21)
-
He created the plan and purpose for everything. It is based on His Grace. Some people credit God the Father as the Creator of the universe, but this is incorrect. Colossians 1:16 clearly states that Jesus is the creator.
-
He is the omnipotent ruler (Psalm 103:19, Romans 11:36)
-
He is absolute Holiness (1 Samuel 2:2)
-
He is a protector of widows and Father to the Fatherless (Psalms 68:5)
-
He is the redeemer (Isaiah 63:16)
-
He is the Justifier (Romans 3:26)
-
He sent His Son Jesus; to be the atoning sacrifice that only Christ could fulfill (1 John 4:9).
-
He raised Christ from the dead (Romans 8:11)
-
He is father of all (Ephesians 4:6) and but the adoptive father of those that believe (Romans 8:14, 2 Corinthians 6:18) into His family (Romans 8:14-15, Ephesians 1:4-5)
-
He teaches us lessons by inflicting us (Psalm 119:71, Hebrews 12:5–8)
